Definition

Espai Lluís Companys is an institution owned by Tornabous town council and co-managed with the Regional Council of Urgell.
It is a historic and biographic area. It embraces the historic period of the reign of Alfonso XIII, the Commonwealth of Catalonia, Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship, the Spanish Second Republic, the Spanish Civil War and the first period of the Francoist dictatorship.
Its singularity is given by its placement in El Tarròs, which is the hometown of Lluís Companys. It is the only centre dedicated to the Ex-president. Moreover, it is one of the few places located in Terres de Ponent that is dedicated to contemporary history.
It is addressed to all kinds of people, from school audience to adults, going through familiar audience and people who are differently abled. As a public institution, Espai Lluís Companys will look out for inclusion and equality of all kinds of audience, following the corresponding rules.


Aim

The aim of Espai Lluís Companys is the recovery and divulgation of Lluís Companys’ figure, its biography, political thinking and its historic and cultural context. Its final purpose is to give value to the democratic rights and liberties.
Espai Lluís Companys is a place of historical memory, of a collective patrimony in order to avoid that such tragic histories happen again. It is linked to the current days and its sorroundings. It is a living space, full of knowledge and place for debate.
